Zip-ties (or whichever of many names you prefer) seem to be one of those tools that causes amnesia: Once they've been in your toolbox for a while, you can't remember life without them. Long, short, heavy, light, color-coded - I think I use one kind or another weekly.So, when I heard that metal zip-ties existed, I had three immediate reactions:-- Steel? WTF?-- Wow!-- I need it.I mean, really need it. I'm doing some work on a dryer vent, where plastic ones would just melt. At best, they'd stop working; at worst, drip melted plastic or catch fire. Stainless steel has other great properties, too: it resists corrosion, survives in sunlight, shrugs off solvents, and does at least as well against abrasion as any plastic. And, if you're a scriptwriter looking for improvised handcuffs - well, maybe Your Hero can break out of them, but he'll probably leave body parts behind.Don't stop there. If your Christmas tree is desperate for 'icicles,' these might work. They're malleable enough to twist or kink with your fingers, and should catch light nicely.-- wiredweird
